Webflow vs. Umbraco

The Perks of Webflow

Webflow is a popular web design and development platform that allows users to create and publish websites without the need for coding. No-code. It provides a visual interface and a drag-and-drop editor that enables users to design and build websites visually, much like a graphic design tool. Easily a good option for companies seeking to create a visually appealing website but would prefer to spend their budget on other things such as photography of marketing.

We’ve listed some of our favorite perks we love about Webflow.

  • Designer empowerment
Probably the most important perk Webflow has is that its’ fully equipped for designers. Designers of all tech skill levels can build websites easily without the necessity for development. They can create responsive websites independently, reducing reliance on multiple teams. It's important to know that the tool is mainly easy to use for editors with design capabilities who are used to programs such as Figma.

  • Option for low-code
And when you might need it: Webflow does offer the possibility to go from no-code to low-code. You can tailor websites with code and functionality. Perfect if you need a certain adjustment which can’t be done in its’ design functionalities.

  • Analytics integration
Webflow offers built-in analytics and an analytics integration for your analytics of choice. Keeping everything connected in one place.

  • Native e-commerce capabilities
It’s the perfect solution for small to mid-sized e-commerce businesses. Webflow has native e-commerce capabilities (product listing, inventory management, payment gateway integration) which allows the creation and management of online stores.

  • Responsiveness
Webflow has built-in responsive functionalities which enables created platforms to automatically adapt to the visitors’ used screen size. Of course, with fine-tuning options per specific device.

  • Quick time-to-market
Less collaboration means faster development. Reduced time translates to cost savings—ideal if you want to allocate your budget more strategically (think strategy, photography, or research).

  • Prototyping
No-code platforms serve as excellent prototypes or temporary landing pages. They buy time while the final product is polished.

The Perks Umbraco offers

Umbraco on the other hand is an open-source CMS. Which means that the possibilities are quite literally endless. It offers developers freedom in terms of flexibility, scalability, and security. Also known as the “friendly CMS”. We often see this as the best option for enterprises seeking a robust and adaptable CMS. Perfect for complex, large-scale businesses.

  • High development flexibility
Starting off with the most important perk: it has high flexibility for development. Making it fully customizable for the clients’ wishes who seek something that not every CMS could make possible.

  • Customizable analytics
Your development team can customize your desired analytics directly into the CMS or provide the option to connect analytics solutions such as Google Analytics.

  • Strong community
Umbraco has a strong community of extensions, which are directly available within the platform.

  • Integrated workflows
Umbraco provides integrated workflows for intuitive editing, multi-device previews, and scheduled publishing and updating of content.

  • Open-source
Umbraco is an open-source solution. Which means that we have full control over the source-code. Giving us freedom to meet any extraordinary privacy and security requirements. Per project we can assess whatever is needed in the source set-up. Another upside is that Umbraco doesn’t have a so-called “vendor-lock”. Which means that you’re not dependent on a vendor for your third-party software in the CMS.

  • Privacy control
With Umbraco you will get a lot more control to store you client data in the EU, on a European server from a European company. This way you are 100% sure you are complying with GDPR data storage regulations. Within Webflow a bit more cautiousness is necessary when implementing third party tools. As some might store data on US based servers.

  • Future-proof
For ambitious long-term goals, high-code solutions shine. They allow scalability and robust safety measures.
